Community Foundation of Carroll County Scholarships & Applications
The 2025-2026 Scholarship Season: Open November 15, 2025 to April 15, 2026.
The Community Foundation of Carroll County supports nearly 70 academic, sports, special circumstances, and 4-H scholarships. Search scholarships by name, or sort by application type. These scholarships fall into three application types (noted in the far right column):
Universal Portal Application: This application is closed for 2026 scholarships.

Other Scholarships using individual applications
The Universal Portal application is an easy way for students to APPLY ONCE and see all the scholarship opportunities they are eligible for (application opens in January and closes mid-April each year). 4-H Club Participants – Use the 4-H/FFA Scholarship Portal application for scholarship opportunities just for you (opens in January and closes July 1 each year). You only apply once and complete the applications for the opportunities you want to pursue.
There are additional scholarship opportunities found in the “Other” category. These are scholarships hosted by the Community Foundation, but the application, review and award process is managed entirely by the scholarship holder. These have individual deadlines, criteria and applications. All scholarships are listed below with criteria, donation information, and access to the application.

| WHS Class of 1930/ E. Rita Kolb Nursing Scholarship |
This scholarship was established in 1981 by the Westminster High School Class of 1930 to provide scholarships for graduating seniors of the Carroll County Career & Technology Center in the Nursing program. It is open to ALL students in the Nursing program. |

| Kaitlyn Taylor McDaniel Memorial Foundation Scholarship |
The purpose of this Fund is to honor the life of KAITLYN TAYLOR MCDANIEL by providing scholarship(s) who wish to pursue a career in nursing or nursing students already enrolled in a program. The Fund will also make grants from time to time to charities or for projects that would have been important to Kaitlyn. |

| Dr. Saleem Shah Memorial Scholarship |
The Dr. Saleem A. Shah Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by Catherine’s Cause, a Carroll County Community Foundation Fund. Dr. Shah a leading Psychologist with the National Institute of Health was hit head on in November of 1992 by a Drunk Driver on his way home. He left a family with a wife, six daughters and eight grandchildren at that time. Dr. Shah’s daughters regularly volunteer with Catherine’s Cause and are strong advocates on working to alert the public on the dangers of Drinking and Driving. To honor Dr. Shah’s memory the family along with Catherine’s Cause are offering this Scholarship in the field of Mental Health in his honor. |

| Karl L. & Elizabeth K. Hendrickson Memorial Scholarship |
The purpose of the Karl L. & Elizabeth K. Hendrickson Memorial Scholarship is to provide scholarships to Manchester Valley High School graduating seniors who have been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning and are pursuing studies in the field of Technology. The field includes, but is not limited to, engineering, electronics, graphic communication, printing, media, and woodworking. |

| Susie Badders Memorial Scholarship |
The Susie Badders Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the life of Susie Badders, known as ‘Boss,’ by providing scholarships for a female graduating senior of Manchester Valley High School who has shown outstanding leadership on the sports field, in the classroom and in the community, and who has been accepted at an accredited College, University, or technical school. |

| I. Virginia and E. Carroll Murray Memorial Scholarship Fund |
The scholarship is established for a Mnachester Valley HS graduating senior n the names of I. Virginia Murray and E. Carroll Murray. Mrs. Murray was a teacher and principal at Manchester Elementary School. She later became Supervisor of Elementary Schools in Carroll County. |

| Jared Lutz Memorial Scholarship |
The purpose of the Jared Lutz Memorial Scholarship is to honor the life of Jared Lutz by providing scholarship(s) for a Liberty High School graduating senior who has shown academic achievement and has participated in the Academy of Health in the Nursing Sciences Program at Carroll County Career and Technology Center. The successful candidate will have been accepted at an accredited College or University. Applications will also be accepted from continuing students, i.e., those already in college from Liberty High School who meet the FUND selection criteria. |

| The Cro Foundation in Memory of Ryan Crochunis |
The Cro Foundation will accomplish its mission of celebrating and memorializing the life of Ryan Crochunis through fundraising and impactful donations to the local Sykesville community. Each year, The Cro Foundation board will determine the focus of their efforts in alignment of their mission. |

| Gage Black Memorial Scholarship |
The purpose of the Gage Black Memorial Scholarship is to honor Gage’s memory by providing a graduating Francis Scott Key HS senior who spent all four years either playing lacrosse, wrestling or in the choral program. Additional consideration will be given to a student who has two years in chorus AND two years attending CCC&TC. This scholarship is supported by the Gage Black Memorial Fund. |

| International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 37 Scholarship |
This scholarship is to provide scholarships for continuing education, undergraduate or graduate study to current and retired members of IUOE, Local 37, their sposes, dependent children (as defined by IRS regulation) and grandchildren. If the applicant is a Union Member he or she must have at least one year of continuous Union Membership. If the applicant is a spouse, dependent child or grandchild, the Union Member must fulfill the eligibility requirements. |

| Jay A. Graybeal Scholarship |
The purpose of the Jay A. Graybeal Scholarship is to provide scholarships to college bound high school students, or students currently enrolled in undergraduate studies or pursuing post-graduate studies in general history or a specialty area of studies in history to include but not limited to; museum studies, archival management, library science, historic preservation, material culture, American Studies, archaeology, anthropology, art or architectural history or preservation technology; or to students pursuing a recognized certification or apprentice program dedicated to traditional arts, industries, trades or crafts. |

| Eugene Curfman Foundation Scholarship |
The purpose of the Eugene Curfman Foundation Scholarship is to give scholarships to two graduating seniors from either Francis Scott Key High School or a home school program in the Taneytown, Union Bridge, New Windsor areas for college and/or trade school assistance in concentration fields of Accounting; Emergency Service; Cyber Security, and Trades (ie. electrical; plumbing; masonry; HVAC; vehicle mechanics; and building construction). The scholarship will be offered to recipients for additional years based on meeting specified criteria. The scholarship has been established as his way of paying forward his success that was enabled by having received scholarships to attend college. |

| Union Bridge Lions Club Scholarship Fund |
The Union Bridge Lions Club has established the Fund for the purpose of providing an annual scholarship to a graduating Senior of Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge, Maryland. The winner shall be that student who displays the following qualities: good citizenship, academic striving and performance and class loyalty and participation. The winner will have been accepted at a college, university, trade or technical school, and shall be chosen by the graduating Senior Class of Francis Scott Key High School by secret ballot. Said balloting to be supervised by the appropriate faculty and staff of the school and tabulated by the Union Bridge Lions Club Scholarship Committee. All scholarships monies shall be transmitted by the Community Foundation of Carroll County directly to the college or university on or about July 1 of each year and applied directly to the student’s tuition and/or books. The monies shall not be remitted to the scholarship winner. |

| Hannah M. R. Shunk Memorial Scholarship Fund |
The purpose of the HANNAH M.R. SHUNK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP, established in 1945 by Hanna M.R. Shunk, is to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors at Francis Scott Key High School in Carroll County, Maryland to encourage students to pursue a college education. The scholarship winner will be nominated by the Francis Scott Key High School Scholarship Committee and approved by the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Carroll County, Inc. Applications are available at the Francis Scott Key High School guidance office. |

The purpose of the Marc & Diane Steckle FSK Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to graduates of Francis Scott Key High School who will be attending four-year universities in the University System of Maryland, Morgan State University, or St. Mary’s College of Maryland. |

| Sherman E Flanagan Memorial Scholarship |
The former Rotary Club of Westminster established the Flanagan Scholarship in memory of former member, Sherman E Flanagan, Jr., who was killed while flying a combat mission in Vietnam in 1968. The selection of the scholarship recipient/s is based on financial need, academic scholarship, service to school and community, and personal character. This scholarship is awarded to two graduating seniors from Westminster High School. This scholarship is paid to the institution on behalf of the student/s for the first two years of post-high-school study. |

The purpose of the GINA MARIA BARNES WARRIORS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP is to honor her memory and legacy by providing a scholarship for a Carroll County graduating female senior lacrosse player. The GINA MARIA BARNES WARRIORS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP will be awarded to a graduating female lacrosse player who will be continuing the sport in college while pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college, university or technical school who meets the criteria established for the fund. |

| Legacy Septic and Excavation Scholarships |
The purpose of the Legacy Septic and Excavation Scholarships is to provide scholarships for current students of Winter’s Mill High School, Manchester Valley High School, Westminster High School and Carroll County Career and Technology Center who have an interest in the environment and who meet the eligibility requirements set up for this scholarship. These scholarships are given in memory of Jake Offutt, Winters Mill High School Class of 2018 Megan Estey, Westminster High School Class of 2011 James “Parker” Traynor, Manchester Valley High School Class of 2023 Kelsey Madison Barry, graduate of the Carroll County Career & Technology Center Class of 2019. |
