The purpose of the Sunshine Flower Memorial Scholarship is to honor the memory of Katherine Michelle McCarthy by providing a scholarship for a Student at South College in Knoxville, TN, who has dropped out of the Nursing program for at least one quarter of the year and wishes to return to school. The Scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the criteria and who has written a five hundred word essay on who they are, why they chose the nursing profession and why they believe they can finish the race.

The Ricky Schmidgall Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Ricky Schmidgall, a young man of compassion, creativity, and resilience. This scholarship supports students who embody these qualities in their pursuit of education and personal growth, encouraging them to continue their journey with the same passion for creativity, learning, and determination that Ricky exemplified throughout his life.

The purpose of Colin Hartlieb’s Entrepreneurial Impact Award is to recognize and empower a student from Winters Mill High School who demonstrates the spirit of entrepreneurship — not only through creativity or business sense, but through meaningful community impact. This award honors initiative, leadership, and the drive to create positive change.

Marie’s Courageous Fight Lacrosse Scholarship honors the resilience, determination, and spirit of student-athletes who refuse to be defined by adversity. Inspired by Marie’s legacy of strength, perseverance, and courage this scholarship recognizes lacrosse players (1 male, 1 female) who have faced significant hardship yet continued to pursue excellence—on the field, in the classroom, and within their community.

The Scott E. Shipley Memorial Tool Award is given to an applicant to help pay for the tools necessary to begin their career.

The Union Bridge Lions Club has established the Fund for the purpose of providing an annual scholarship to a graduating Senior of Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge, Maryland. The winner shall be that student who displays the following qualities: good citizenship, academic striving and performance and class loyalty and participation. The winner will have been accepted at a college, university, trade or technical school, and shall be chosen by the graduating Senior Class of Francis Scott Key High School by secret ballot. Said balloting to be supervised by the appropriate faculty and staff of the school and tabulated by the Union Bridge Lions Club Scholarship Committee. All scholarships monies shall be transmitted by the Community Foundation of Carroll County directly to the college or university on or about July 1 of each year and applied directly to the student’s tuition and/or books. The monies shall not be remitted to the scholarship winner.

In 1998, Mrs. Larry Pickett established the Larry E. Memorial Scholarship Fund to benefit a student at Catonsville High School in Science and in Music and Theater. The criteria for the scholarship required that the recipient be selected by a Scholarship Committee at the high school, and approved by the Board of Directors at the Community Foundation. Please contact the Catonsville HS Guidance office for application criteria and information.

This scholarship is to provide scholarships for continuing education, undergraduate or graduate study to current and retired members of IUOE, Local 37, their sposes, dependent children (as defined by IRS regulation) and grandchildren. If the applicant is a Union Member he or she must have at least one year of continuous Union Membership. If the applicant is a spouse, dependent child or grandchild, the Union Member must fulfill the eligibility requirements.

The purpose of the GINA MARIA BARNES WARRIORS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP is to honor her memory and legacy by providing a scholarship for a Winters Mill graduating senior. The GINA MARIA BARNES WARRIORS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP will be awarded to a graduating Senior pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college, university or technical school who meets the criteria established for the fund.

The F. Lynn Mayer Memorial Fund provides financial assistance to a student from Catonsville High School, Baltimore County, Maryland, to be determined based on the amount of money available in accordance with the terms of this agreement. In addition, if income in any given year is sufficient, grants for other charitable purposes may be made in Mr. Mayer’s memory.

The Dr. Saleem A. Shah Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by Catherine’s Cause, a Carroll County Community Foundation Fund. Dr. Shah a leading Psychologist with the National Institute of Health was hit head on in November of 1992 by a Drunk Driver on his way home. He left a family with a wife, six daughters and eight grandchildren at that time. Dr. Shah’s daughters regularly volunteer with Catherine’s Cause and are strong advocates on working to alert the public on the dangers of Drinking and Driving. To honor Dr. Shah’s memory the family along with Catherine’s Cause are offering this Scholarship in the field of Mental Health in his honor.

The Baker-Yingling Athletic Scholarship Fund was established by the St. John’s Boys Basketball Committee as a tribute to long-time coaches Larry Baker and Donald “Bo” Yingling. The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships for children involved in the athletic programs at St. John’s Roman Catholic Community in Westminster, Maryland.
