The 2023 Scholarship Season is closed.
The Community Foundation of Carroll County supports nearly 75 academic, sports, special circumstances, and 4-H scholarships. Search scholarships by name, or sort by application type. These scholarships fall into three application types (noted in the far right column):

The Universal Portal application is an easy way for students to APPLY ONCE and see all the scholarship opportunities they are eligible for (application opens in January and closes mid-April each year). 4-H Club Participants – Use the 4-H/FFA Scholarship Portal application for scholarship opportunities just for you (opens in January and closes July 1 each year). You only apply once and complete the applications for the opportunities you want to pursue. There are additional scholarship opportunities found in the “Other” category. These are scholarships hosted by the Community Foundation, but the application, review and award process is managed entirely by the scholarship holder. These have individual deadlines, criteria and applications. All scholarships are listed below with criteria, donation information, and access to the application.

Union Bridge Lions Club Scholarship Fund

The Union Bridge Lions Club has established the Fund for the purpose of providing an annual scholarship to a graduating Senior of Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge, Maryland. The winner shall be that student who displays the following qualities: good citizenship, academic striving and performance and class loyalty and participation. The winner will have been accepted at a college, university, trade or technical school, and shall be chosen by the graduating Senior Class of Francis Scott Key High School by secret ballot. Said balloting to be supervised by the appropriate faculty and staff of the school and tabulated by the Union Bridge Lions Club Scholarship Committee. All scholarships monies shall be transmitted by the Community Foundation of Carroll County directly to the college or university on or about July 1 of each year and applied directly to the student’s tuition and/or books. The monies shall not be remitted to the scholarship winner.

Walter J. & Anna E. Hackett, Sr. PRIMARY SCHOOL Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of Walter J. & Anna E. Hackett, Sr. Memorial Scholarship is to provide scholarships for students demonstrating a need for financial assistance who wish to attend St. John School in Westminster, Maryland. Contact St. John Catholic School for more information.

Westminster Pride Scholarship

The Westminster Pride Scholarship aims to provide some assistance to students of the LGBTQ+ community and student allies in furthering their education beyond high school.

Adam N. Pope Courage Scholarship

Adam Nathaniel Pope inspired family, friends, and all those he touched, and the Fund will recognize other young people who, similar to Adam, have demonstrated courage in overcoming physical, emotional, health or other obstacles or challenges in their life. The scholarship will be based on character, not scholarship, although the award will be paid directly to any form of educational institution at which the recipient matriculates within 24 months after graduation from Winters Mill High School.

Bethany Shay Green Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Bethany Shay Green Memorial Scholarship is to honor the life of Bethany Shay Green by providing scholarship(s) for a female Westminster High School graduating senior who has shown academic achievement and participated in the Softball, Volleyball and or Basketball programs and who has been accepted at an accredited College, University or Technical School. Applications will also be accepted from continuing students i.e. those already in college from Westminster High School who meet the criteria established for this scholarship.

Carroll County Food Services Association Scholarship

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarships to seniors graduating from any public high school in Carroll County, Maryland. The Carroll County Food Services Association Scholarship will be awarded one or more students who have successfully completed high school; been accepted at an accredited college, university or culinary arts school; and met the criteria established for this award.

CASE Scholarship for Higher Learning

In an effort to encourage and retain membership, the Carroll Association of School Employees has established the CASE SCHOLARSHIP FOR HIGHER LEARNING, a scholarship fund of the Community Foundation of Carroll County, Inc. The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarships for members of CASE who wish to pursue higher learning. Children, stepchildren and grandchildren of the Carroll Association of School Employees may also apply and if qualified, may be awarded scholarships from the Fund.

Charles Lewis Memorial Science & Engineering Scholarship

The Charles W. Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 by his family. Mr. Lewis did not have the advantage of monetary funds for college but he strongly believed in the value of education. As a result, during his lifetime, he tried to provide that support to others to help them achieve their educational goals. The purpose of this Fund is to provide a scholarship for a graduating senior of a Carroll County, Maryland, High School who will pursue a college education in Engineering, who has a financial need, who has exhibited academic achievement, and who has demonstrated involvement in his or her community. The student must have been enrolled at a Carroll County High School for his or her entire junior and senior years. Students enrolled in Engineering courses at the Carroll Career and Technology Center will be given special consideration. Follow the links below for additional criteria and application.

Christian James Koch Century High SChool Boys Lacrosse Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Christian James Koch Century High School Boys Lacrosse Memorial Scholarship is to honor Christian’s passion for lacrosse by providing a scholarship(s) for a graduating senior(s) who played boys lacrosse
at Century High School (Sykesville, MD) for a minimum of two years). The Scholarship(s) will be awarded to a graduating Century High School Boys Lacrosse player(s) pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university who meets the criteria established for the fund.

Danele Shipley Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Danele Shipley Scholarship Award Fund will provide financial assistance to a number of students from Carroll County to be determined based on the amount of money available in accordance with the terms of this agreement. The student must have shown outstanding citizenship traits and have been involved in student service activities and extra-curricular activities during his or her high school career.

Dream Big Union Bridge

The Dream Big Union Bridge Scholarship was established in 2021 by Dream Big Union Bridge for a Union Bridge resident to pursue higher education. Dream Big Union Bridge is a non-profit organization founded in 2017 with the focus of connecting neighbors and businesses to celebrate, beautify and improve the historic town located within Carroll County, Maryland. The scholarship fund is to honor the values and dedication of the community in promoting continual opportunities for growth by supporting higher learning opportunities for selected recipient(s).

Everybody's Quilt Guild Textile Arts Scholarship

The purpose of the Everybody’s Quilt Guild Textile Arts Scholarship is to provide a scholarship for a student who is a resident of Carroll County, Maryland, graduating from a Carroll County High School, a private High School or a student who is Home Schooled who has been accepted at an accredited College or University and who will be pursuing studies in the field of Textile Arts and meets all the criteria established for the fund.

Georgia E Frank Scholarship

The mission of the Georgia E. Frank Scholarship Fund is to support graduating Carroll County high school students of all backgrounds and needs as they pursue their dreams of being a teacher. As Georgia was a life-long Family and Consumer Science teacher in Carroll County, this fund aims to invigorate, encourage, and support aspiring young educators as they transition from high school to the collegiate stages of their training. As a teacher, Georgia encouraged her students to love what they do, to do it well, in order to make the world around them a better place to live. We hope this fund provides assistance to similarly minded young people as they pursue their future teaching career.

Grace I. Cookson Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of Grace I Cookson Memorial Scholarship is to offer college scholarships to worthy graduating seniors and members of the United Methodist Church, Baltimore Suburban District (formerly the West Baltimore District), in the Baltimore-Washington Conference, or its successor.

Harvey R. Shipley and Sons Scholarship Fund

The purpose of the Harvey R. Shipley and Sons Scholarship is to encourage and promote the Truck Driving Industry by providing financial assistance in the form of Scholarships to individuals who wish to pursue training/education at an appropriate educational institution, with the intent of becoming professional truck drivers.

I. Virginia and E. Carroll Murray Memorial Scholarship Fund

The scholarship is established for a Mnachester Valley HS graduating senior n the names of I. Virginia Murray and E. Carroll Murray. Mrs. Murray was a teacher and principal at Manchester Elementary School. She later became Supervisor of Elementary Schools in Carroll County.

Jared Lutz Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the Jared Lutz Memorial Scholarship is to honor the life of Jared Lutz by providing scholarship(s) for a Liberty High School graduating senior who has shown academic achievement and has participated in the Academy of Health in the Nursing Sciences Program at Carroll County Career and Technology Center. The successful candidate will have been accepted at an accredited College or University. Applications will also be accepted from continuing students, i.e., those already in college from Liberty High School who meet the FUND selection criteria.

Jay A. Graybeal Scholarship

The purpose of the Jay A. Graybeal Scholarship is to provide scholarships to college bound high school students, or students currently enrolled in undergraduate studies or pursuing post-graduate studies in general history or a specialty area of studies in history to include but not limited to; museum studies, archival management, library science, historic preservation, material culture, American Studies, archaeology, anthropology, art or architectural history or preservation technology; or to students pursuing a recognized certification or apprentice program dedicated to traditional arts, industries, trades or crafts.

John & Elsie Bankert Academic Scholarship

The purpose of the John & Elsie Bankert Academic Scholarship is to award a $2,000.00 academic scholarship each year to a current graduate of Westminster High School, who is in the top five percent of the class and who demonstrates high promise in the area of liberal arts.

The purpose of the KAITLYN TAYLOR MCDANIEL MEMORIAL FOUNDATION is to honor her memory and pay tribute to her by providing a scholarship for a graduating senior or continuing student from any Carroll County High School.
THE KAITLYN TAYLOR MCDANIEL MEMORIAL FOUNDATION Will be awarded to a graduating or continuing student from a Carroll County High pursuing an undergraduate degree in nursing at an accredited college, university who meets the criteria established for the fund.

The purpose of the Karl L. & Elizabeth K. Hendrickson Memorial Scholarship is to provide scholarships to Manchester Valley High School graduating seniors who have been accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning and are pursuing studies in the field of Technology. The field includes, but is not limited to, engineering, electronics, graphic communication, printing, media, and woodworking.

Lee H Madairy Scholarship

The purpose of the Lee H Madairy Scholarship is to honor the life of Lee H. Madairy by providing scholarship(s) for a new or returning college or vocational program student who has shown academic achievement, excellent moral character and is pursuing a career in a STEM field. The successful candidate will have been accepted at an accredited College, University, or vocational program. The amount of money available each year for the scholarship(s) will be determined by the income generated by the fund. In addition, if income in any given year is sufficient, grants for other charitable purposes may be made in Mr. Madairy’s memory.

Legacy Septic and Excavation Scholarships

The purpose of the Legacy Septic and Excavation Scholarships is to provide scholarships for current students of Winter’s Mill High School, Manchester Valley High School, Westminster High School and Carroll County Career and Technology Center who are pursuing an interest in environmental science or environmental engineering and who meet the eligibility requirements set up for this scholarship.

Manufacturing and Machine Technology

The purpose of the Manufacturing and Machine Technology Scholarship is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors from The Carroll County Career and Technology Center in Westminster, Maryland, planning to pursue a career in Manufacturing and Machining technology. The scholarship is intended to help defray the cost of technical school or college expenses with the intent of creating tomorrow’s industry leaders.

Megan Branscome Memorial Fund

Our goal is to provide 2 Carroll County Public School students from Manchester Valley High School with a $1,000 scholarship each. These 2 students would be enrolling in Carroll Community College. Our daughter passed away suddenly on September 10, 2022, and we want to dedicate the scholarships in her name. Megan attended MVHS. After graduating she attended Carroll Community College. Her family would like to help 2 students achieve their educational goals. We will be using some proceeds from our craft business “Megan’s Wings” to subsidize the scholarship fund. We already have an ongoing commitment of $1,500. Our goal is to provide the scholarships this coming academic school year.
